When I learn that a child is said to have ADHD, I think it's just as important to look at the child's parents and teachers as much as it is to look at the child. Those who seek an evaluation of ADHD for a child can in many ways effect the outcome of a diagnosis of ADHD
Sometimes, professionals have diagnosed ADHD by simply listening to parent or teacher descriptions of the child's behaviors along with a brief observation of the child. Other times, brief screening questionnaires are used, although these questionnaires only quantify the parents' or teachers' descriptions of the behaviors (Parker, 1992).1
