I personally think that Apple's visuals are boring. Maybe to a former Windows Vista user Apple's graphical presentation is novel & exciting.
But there's nothing to compare in either Apple or Microsoft's offerings that matches the sweet ass eye candy of Compiz-Fusion.

See, with Compiz-Fusion, Linux blows away Apple when it comes to eye candy. But Compiz-Fusion is not normally turned on by default.
I think what Ubuntu and other linux distros need to do is create a default visual presentation that is compelling as the one Mac OS X offers. It can definitely be done.
Of course, Linux has a lot to do in terms of unbrainwashing Mac addicts from all of the Mac propaganda that they've been infused with by their cult leader Steve Jobs.
